Ethan Shaotran is an American software engineer and author, currently serving in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).[1][2]
Early life and education
[edit]Shaotran is a resident of Palo Alto, California. He attended the Research Science Institute at MIT in 2019.[3] He graduated from Gunn High School in 2020 and is a senior at Harvard University.[4][5][6] He is developing a scheduling assistant, Spark, backed by OpenAI.[7]
Shaotran is the co-founder of **Energize AI**, a scheduling assistant for professionals, and has worked on AI alignment research. He has authored several books on AI, holds four patents in computer vision and logistics, and has published research in IEEE on autonomous systems.[8]
Career
[edit]Shaotran is among a group of 19 to 24 year olds appointed to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).[9] According to Wired, Shaotran currently has an active General Services Administration (GSA) email and A-suite level clearance, giving him clearance to GSA facilities and IT services.[9]
Shaotran was also identified as a **runner-up at a hackathon held by xAI**, Elon Musk’s AI company, and received a **$100,000 grant from OpenAI** to develop his AI scheduling assistant.[10]
Shaotran is part of a six-member team of young engineers working under Musk at DOGE, alongside **Akash Bobba (21), Luke Farritor (23), Gautier Cole Killian (24), Gavin Kliger (25), and Edward Coristine (19), the youngest member of the team.**[11]

[edit]Shaotran has worked on AI and autonomous systems research at Harvard SEAS and MIT, publishing in IEEE and contributing to AI alignment projects with OpenAI. Some of his works include:

[edit]Outside of AI research, Shaotran is an **avid mountaineer and scuba diver**. He is a member of the **Harvard Mountaineering Club** and worked as a **scuba divemaster in Hawaii** during a gap year.
